What to write...

I want to write...to write long prose and short funny stories.
I want to express the happy & joy and sad & fury that flows through me daily.
This means being in touch with me enough to make words out of all that.
I am working on it.
I really am.

Hello there!

I am finally able to peek my head out a bit and write an update on the incredible adventure that is my life.

For those unaware, I left WWU this summer to head out to the Midwest to start a new life in Columbus OH. Well…life in Columbus just didn’t pan out & within a fairly short amount of time; I headed back to the green wonderland that is Washington. After several months/interviews/rejections, I was finally hired at the University of Washington in the Foster School of Business-Undergraduate Programs Office. I hold the illustrious title of Program Coordinator! What that really means is that I am the Class Scheduling/Scholarship Coordinating/Budget Overseeing guru. I have just finished my first round in the scheduling process and let me tell you….this job is great! I am really looking forward to delving into the Scholarship part of my job, as I get to work directly with students and the financial aid office to get them some funding for school.

UW is treating me very well. I have been welcomed into the UPO with open arms and everyone is unbelievably friendly here.

This picture was taken during a student event at the end of my first week…and in the one below, you can see that I fit right in with all the fun times!!

I have not explored the UW campus too thoroughly as you can’t really get too far in an hour lunch break here! This campus is enormous!!!

You may wonder that if I am working in Seattle…have I moved there yet? And the answer is no. As of now I am still living in Mount Vernon in my house that my housemate is graciously allowing me to stay in. However, I have found 3 other really great people and we are currently waiting on pins & needles as to whether we got a house! It is really the most amazing house ever and I hope with all my fingers crossed that we can move in by Nov 10th.

In the meantime, I am commuting from Mount Vernon to Seattle every day. The good part about that is that I only drive a half hour to Marysville and then hop on a bus that takes me directly to campus and practically drops me off right in front of my building!

EDIT: I AM living in Seattle...we got the house and it is amazing!!! Pictures can be found here

Some other amazing things that I have done in the last few months….

Drove home from Ohio. A drive that brought my driving miles to somewhere around 6900!

Went to Portland to see an amazing musician, Miss Brandi Carlile….and ran into 35 of my closest friends! Hung out with some friends in White Rock BC and ran into a sea monster. And went to Ocean Shores for the annual Family reunion camping trip!

So…the fun still keeps coming for me. Things have been both very very up and very very down over the last 4 months, but things are looking up up up from here!

Feel free to shoot me an email or give me a call...I would love to hear how everyone is doing!!!

There is more...

But I stopped writing it down.
From Colorado we went to St Louis and then to Columbus.
July 4th led to the journey to Rothbury and ack to Columbus.
I was back on the road heading back to WA by July 14th.
I have no more words for this trip other than I would not have done it differently, nor do I regret making it.

Pictures can be found here.

More are here.
Original post date: Some time around June 20th
More pictures than you can handle can be found here.

Ok...SO this is probably going to be long and somewhat tedious...but really, that is what this week has been so if you don't want to full experience...to damn bad!!!!

For those STILL unaware of what the hell I have been planning with my life for the last 6 months ( I really can't believe there is anyone left...but, if you are out there...GET OUT FROM UNDER YOUR ROCK!!!) I have quit WWU, moved out of Mount Vernon, packed up my VW Jetta and driven across the country to Ohio.
Yes...driven across the country. Now for those of you who know me, know that I don't usually do anything small. So for this undertaking, I decided that I needed to get in as much of the things I enjoy as I could. So, for shits & giggles, I talked my friend Rachel into tagging along...she was already on an "Irresponsibility Tour" so I figured that she wouldn't mind sitting in a car for long periods of time taking pictures and seeing the sights. And by sights I mean the corn fields of Kansas in the dead of night.
My adventure began on Tuesday June 17 after packing up all my personal belongings in Gretta Jetta , I set out for Seattle to hangout with my buddies at Fraggle Rock. I have said this before, but this house is AMAZING!!! After some amazing hospitality, good food, laughs, and warm fuzzies, I left Seattle to head to Tacoma to hang with an old friend. Got to see how some other schools do the graduation thing…and frankly, I think the ladies at WWU are experts!!!
I was up bright & early Saturday June 20 to head to PDX to pick up Rachel from her adventure in Roundup MT. (if you know who Rachel is…be sure to check out her blogs…if you don’t, just trust me when I say HIL-AR-IOUS!!!) After collecting “suitcase” yes that is the official name…we headed out to meet Heather for some hang out time before AT BBQ goodness. (AT= AgainToday.com a fan forum for Brandi Carlile fans. If you don’t know who I am talking about….what the hell are you doing reading my blog??? Do I really know you?) The adventure begins when we find ourselves way hell & gone in Milwalkie OR looking for a street we passed roughly 42 miles back. After a quick u-turn and a phone call to Heather, we found the house & met Yoda. Yoda is a little fuzzy dog like creature who likes to call small throw pillows a bed and squeeze himself into incredibly tight spaces.
After visiting with Yoda , we headed out to Heathers house, where we picked some delicious strawberries from her garden and I got interviewed for a documentary she is creating. Look for me on Lifetime!!! On to BBQ central at Sarah’s house. 22 pounds of chicken, corn chips and banana pudding was on the menu. And the entertainment of choice…..CORNHOLE!!!! This game of skill & strategy was great fun.
The BBQ was quickly closed and we all packed up to head to Roller Derby. I love me some Roller Derby!!! Taking the MAX was a smart move…since Jenn & Sarah managed to keep everyone well hydrated with the delicious beers available to VIP members! OH…the highlight of the evening…Nurse Ratchet a.k.a Heather!!! She has to be the best mascot EVAR!
There was talk of hitting up Sassy’s after derby…but the (in)famous Natalie was not working and so really…there was no point. After some quick goodbyes and a MAX ride back to the vehicles, Rachel & I headed to Wendy’s for rejuvenating showers and then we hopped in the car and began the drive. You know it is gonna be a good trip when we almost got arrested by the elderly security guard for trying to climb the giant horse at the mall somewhere in Oregon. That was pretty much the extent of the excitement…I ended up driving until around 5 am when I could no longer keep my eyes open. I think we made it most of the way through Oregon. We slept for an hour or so and were back on the road by 6 am. I have not ever driven I-5 south to California before…I know why now. If you have the time & patience…take 101 or 1 down the coast…this had to be the most painful drive EVER! We arrived in Santa Barbara at 5pm with time to search for a shower (to no avail), clean our faces and change at the Visitors Center, find the venue, have Rachel straighten her hair in the parking garage [(yes, she is THAT classy) for some reason the city of Santa Barbara does not like to give out free electricity], and meet some other AT’ers outside the Lobero Theater.
Inside, we managed to get second row tickets, thanks to super sleuth Gabi! So we settled into our seats and waited for the show. Another AT’er showed up so we gabbed a bit before the show and soon the lights dimmed and Priscilla Ahn came on stage. She is about the cutest out there! She is awful funny and has the sweetest voice. If you don’t know who she is… check her out: http://www.myspace.com/priscillaahn
Finally…Brandi and the boys came out. This is the first time I have seen them together since October of last year…so let me tell you I was so excited!!! And not disappointed!!! As usual Brandi brought tears to my eyes and made me bounce around like a puppy all in the same moment!!! A great show with fabulous audience interaction (someone asked Brandi to marry them while she was still in California…Brandi responded with “Thank God for California!”), some good old fashioned guitars*x, and a new song. Gotta love it! I have no pictures of the trip or SB or the show cause my camera battery died in PDX and I had no way to charge it!!! You will just have to imagine the amazingness that is Brandi in a tiny little theatre singing Hallelujah unplugged.
We wanted to stick around after the show to get some stuff signed…but between the 18 hours in the car and the excitement, we decided to just head back to our sleeping space at awesome AT’er Amy’s parents house.
A good nights sleep in a big comfy bed, and breakfast in the morning was just what I needed to fuel me for the long drive to Vegas!!!! At 3.5 hours…we thought that we would swing back to LA and try it again it was such a breeze!
Stick around….I got more!!!

Instalment #2

Arriving in Vegas, I just got more & more excited!!! My social conscious side thinks Vegas is such an evil place…the waste and excess just make me cringe. But on the other hand, Vegas is so damn shiny I can’t help but just want to revel in it!!! SO SHINY!!! We arrived in Vegas at around 3pm and checked into the Imperial Palace that is located on the northish end of the strip near the Flamingo and sort of kitty corner to the Bellagio. This hotel is extremely cheap for being right on the strip and surprisingly clean and not too rundown for being as old as it is. After depositing our stuff in the room, Rachel & I decided to go lay in the sun by the pool. Unfortunately I forgot my swim suit in the car, so as Rachel headed to the pool deck, I took the circuitous route back to the car to get my suit. By the time I changed and went out to the pool…all the sun was gone. Since it was well over 100 degrees…sitting on the pool deck in the heat just seemed silly, so we headed back inside to wash the road off of us and get ready to explore Vegas!
Showered and shiny…the first stop was the Harrahs beverage store. Here we were educated by the nice woman behind the counter that yes indeed we could carry open beverage containers around on the strip. So beers in hand, we took to the sidewalk to see the sights. After just a few minutes, we found the Casino Royale! The draw was the big sign that said $1 beer and margaritas. Upon entering, we found out that we could get $50 free to gamble with…so of course we signed up and away we went. The catch to the gambling is you had to win the jackpot to make any cash…but Rachel kept winning $10 at a time to prolong the attempts to win big! I lost all my $50 fairly quickly. With our membership, we received a sheet of coupons with a ton of great things to save on. We took advantage of the 2-for-1 $1 beer and margarita specials…that means 2 beers or margaritas for ONE DOLLAR!!!!! OH YES!
Back out on the street…right in front of us was the Stratosphere tower. I told Rachel that the tower had a roller coaster and some other rides and she was determined to get on one of them…so we headed straight there with a stop or two for more beer and entertainment. Along the way, we came across a tattoo shop. Both of us have been itching for tattoos so we thought we would go in & get some quotes. I came across the jewelry case & found some nifty purple spirally glass earrings. After a bit of deliberation, I had the really nice guy put them in my ears…they look extra pretty in the sun!!! Rachel had a great discussion with the tattoo artist and after some preliminary sketches and a quick call to mom for astrological expertise, a bargain was struck and before I knew it Rachel was stretched out on the tattoo chair getting inked! Yes, she was sure she wanted the black outline…oh boy does it look good!
This whole process was improved by the fact that we both had tall cans of beer during the entire process…oh Vegas, you are excessive and amazing all at the same time!!
After the tattoo, we continued on to the Stratosphere where Rachel was shot into the air and dropped from the highest point EVER! I stood on the outside observation deck and took in the glittery, sparkle of Vegas and the unnerving hot wind that was still blowing at almost 11pm. After the thrill ride, we headed back down the super fast elevator to the ground in search of food! Namely of the buffet variety. We had been told that the Sahara casino would have a cheap buffet…but apparently although you can gamble all night, you can’t get buffet past ten in this city. Priorities people!!! So we settled for subway and pizza. Yum!
Also worth mentioning…by this point in the evening, but Rachel & I were noticing slight scratchy throats and stuffy feelings in our heads. We chalked it up to the Vegas dust and headed back to the hotel for some well needed rest. In the morning we checked out of the hotel and headed back on the road…just outside of Vegas, I realized I needed gas and breakfast was in order. Both of us still felt like road kill but thought that food might help. The truck stop we went to had an Iron Skillet with…drum roll….a BUFFET! We deliberated for well over an hour (exactly) on what to order and finally decided that buffet was really the only option!!!
I am a big fan of salad bars and so was excited to run down the line of delicious salad ingredients. I piled my Iron Skillet high with yummy looking greens and other various salad stuffs. Now, I usually don’t salt & pepper my food, but when it comes to salad I love the taste of pepper on it…so I started shaking…about 4 shakes in, the lid on the pepper shaker fell off…and the next thing I knew there was a huge pile of pepper in my delicious salad!!!!!! ARRRRGGGHH! I sat for a few moments saddened and laughing all at the same time. Luckily…it was a buffet, so I was able to get back up and make another salad. Not as fabulous as the first one….but mostly delicious!
After the buffet had been thoroughly depleted…we made tracks to get on the road and head for Colorado. Driving through the desert was both beautiful and amazing! It always floors me at how different the regions of this country are. There are some amazing sights here that is for sure!
Onward…and upward about 13,000 feet to be exact!!

Yes…it has been a while…and yes I am just going to pick up where I left off…cause I got it like that!

So we left Vegas full to the brim with buffet and ready to see some desert! Driving in the desert is not that exciting, so I was glad to see that the road just was going to disappear in to the mountains. I didn’t really care that it didn’t seem to go ANYWHERE…but in fact, it did…right through some of the most beautiful rocks I have ever seen! The whole point was to get to see Bryce and Zion parks in Southern Utah…but unfortunately, due to time and such, they were not in the cards but there was still some beautiful scenery to look at!
Now you may remember that both Rachel & I were feeling like roadkill…well that didn’t change, even after the buffet. So the trip was mostly uneventful other than staring in awe at the amazing views. We made it through Utah by sunset and Colorado stretched ahead of us in the dark!! I wish that I could have driven in the daylight, because I am sure that the view is spectacular! But winding through the tunnels and avoiding careening off the edges of the hairpin turns was enough to keep me entertained. It seemed to take FOREVER to get to Breckenridge…but eventually, the sign popped up and we were headed into the mountains to the quaint little town that I could not see AT ALL!!!
Just as we were bouncing onto Main street…at 1:30 am mind you…I realized that I needed to slow down. Apparently, so did Officer Friendly from the Breckenridge police…cause he pulled me over! I am sure both Rachel and I looked a hot mess cause the first thing he said was “ya’ll have been driving a while huh?” I was already prepared with my license & registration…and I was as nice as I could be…all things considered, and said yes we had been driving from Vegas. I asked him if he was going to give me a ticket and he told me that I was going 31 in a 20 mph zone…but it was not enough for a ticket. I thanked him big time and he went away to run my name & search for warrants. Just before I began to doze off…he came back, handed me his card, told me to slow down, and bid us good night. I made sure I drove super slow the rest of the way to the condo. Once at the complex, after having to park behind someone who was parked in our spot…we made out way directly to bed! I was so glad to sleep it was glorious!!! I woke rather early int eh am…cause I am a freak. I went into the living room & found the View from the balcony…ummm pretty much breathtaking!!!
